Papapisshu! v.1.2
Ok, so I now have the (hopefully) last version of Excavatorrr. I’ll fix any bugs found, though, so I may release some smaller updates later.
Changelog:
-Shop system changed
-New item in the shop
-New enemy
-Stalactites should now work without flaws
-Some order-related issues fixed
-New *secret*
-It’s now easier to see where the hidden objects are, though just a bit.
Notice that it’s possible now to get a bigger score than earlier.
Well, stupid death of the day: I get to the bottom, to the idol, with a path back up, for the first time. While setting up my great climb, I accidentally pick away a necessary step upward. Ooops.
This new version is awesome. I’m still seeing the occasional bat in the wall, and the shopkeeper spawned inside a heavy block, but I think the game is dang good.
I finally got the idol! This was a very good game. Very fun.
Thanks for the compliments! Yeah, the bat bug is difficult to solve, but luckily it isn’t that game-breaking.
Congratulations for beating the game!
This game is amazing. It will probably never be famous, which is too bad, but the depth & action are both good.
If you keep on updating, I, for one, will keep playing the new versions.
…bug of sorts to fix: make the player’s hitbox a little shorter, so that you can jump into one-block-high holes in walls more easily. As things stand, you never know if you’re going to get in or not.
You’ve made a lot of changes in this version! I found the new grail functionality (and boy did it ever send me into a panic) and I’m learning to spot the hidden items. I think you’ve done an amazing job with this game. It’s way more detailed and complicated than it looks at first glance.
Hey Hempuli, I just did a review on the game at The Daily Click. 10/10 for this one!
One thing though, I saw a brown gun but died trying to get it. How many weapons are in this game?
not more than the stunner, the spikeballs and the alien weapon.
I finally got the top of the high score board. It required a ridiculous amount of planning and strategy, as well as a fair amount of luck, as well as a very, very careful eye on things. It certainly helped that the two random bosses didn’t spawn (I haven’t seen them all version, actually). I’ll never reveal my strategy for getting all those points, but no glitches were used (all the ones I knew of have been patched and I didn’t use them anyhow).
I would’ve had it earlier this morning, but my hubris and greed got the better of me, yet again.
If you were ever to make changes to the game, my suggestion would be to increase the appearance rate of the random bosses to spice things up.
Also, I know there are two designs for the Cursed idol. Do both spawn every time? I’ve only ever seen one. If they’re both present on every board, then my score can be realistically beaten.
Hempuli, once again, I have to state that this game is amazing, and you did a great job with it.
I loved the game. Just two minor points you might want to check: the readme file says “1.0″, not “1.2″, maybe this should be changed? I was fooled by this and re-downloaded the game. Also, one time I had the large ghost boss spawned at the topmost level (i.e. the green level) of the caverns. I’m not sure if that’s supposed to happen, if it is, it sure was scary.
The ghost boss can appear anywhere, but now that I can think of it, it can theoretically appear on top of the player. *facepalm* I’ll fix that! I’ll fix the readme ‘bug’ too.
Deceased Crab, I’m sorry to tell you that the idol may look different at times, but there’s always only one and it acts the same.
One more bug (maybe?): the grail works even if the sarcophagus is not uncovered. I just jumped near a tile, and boom. The sacrophagus wasn’t even seen. Also, are enemies supposed to respawn in random places? I once encountered a green demon on the surface (after I dug to the third level of the caverns), and there was no way he could get there on his own.
The first one is a stupid one, I’ll fix it asap. The other one sounds strange: The only way the enemies should be able to teleport like that is by using the Alien Weapon. Thanks for telling!
Yeah, turns out it was the Alien Weapon. I just failed to understand it had side effects, sorry!
When I first discovered the alien weapon, I was very excited. I used it on enemies successfully, and they went away. But then I accidentally walked into it myself…
…after falling a goodly distance into a pit full of enemies, I vowed to play it safe and leave the Alien Weapon alone.
The bug is now fixed. :)
I like the Alien Weapon a lot; I think that even though it’s not very useful, it’s a nice toy to play with.
Try sometime to light up a bomb and then teleport it away! ;D
The Alien Weapon is great as a last resort. If your way back up has been destroyed, you could do a lot worse.
Great game! I’m playing it on Linux using Wine and it works perfectly. I just got back onto the scoreboard at 45970. What makes this particularly galling is that I was *at* the bottom, with a safe path all the way back to the top, and then I clumsily dropped a stone block on my head while breaking into the chamber with the idol.
I was going to come here and ask about a bunch of odd things that happened while I was playing, but only now do I realise that they were all related to me not realising what the alien weapon was actually doing! My biggest difficulty in the game is dealing with the red demons. I have dropped dynamite on them and it’s still not enough to kill them. Sometimes I’ve managed to kill them with the stunner, but I would much rather buy the drill because it’s so useful. Can somebody recommend a good strategy to deal with them?
Why do ghosts sometimes not materialize for extremely long periods of time?
Of the rare creatures, so far I’ve seen red demons quite a lot. Once I saw a light blue enemy that killed itself before I managed to get close. On another occasion I saw a rather scary dark green creature, and I dropped lots of dynamite on it, but I couldn’t kill it and I died not long after. It looks like I either managed to knock an item out of it or that it was guarding something. I’m hoping I get to meet it again to find out what the item is. I’ll not say any more so as not to spoil it too much.
There’s 1 red dragon/devil in each cave. Because they’re so fiery, they are not hurt from Bombs or Dynamites! They need 4 hits with a pickaxe, 2 hits with a spikeball and 2-3 hits with the stunner. I’d suggest buying 2 spikeballs since they are so cheap. Also dropping a block on it might be worthwhile.
The Yeti seems to be very good at killing itself. I’m trying to resolve this! ;)
The ghosts and bug like that, and that’s a bug I’ve never understood even myself. They should always act the same, but somehow they keep bugging and getting stuck to the invisible state.
The dark green creature is Mr. Cthulhu, and he’s indeed guarding an item. He’s immortal but can kill you with a single blow, so I suggest you think twice before waking him up! :D
Damn, I’ve never met a Cthulhu :( I have met the centipede.. thing, though, just once, and it was scary as hell.
What? There’s a spikeball to be bought? Is there a version later than 1.12 or am I missing a later version?
I like the Alien Weapon a lot; I think that even though it’s not very useful, it’s a nice toy to play with.
Sounds like Spelunky’s rather useless web cannon. :p
I woke up the Cthulu guy before but he killed me. I didn’t realize he was immortal but there IS a secret item hidden inside one of the bricks that make up his little lair. Or at least there was in the game I was playing (in case that’s randomized too.)
> Is there a version later than 1.12 or am I missing a later version?
The current version is 1.2c, and yes, there’s a spikeball!
Also, I love the Alien Weapon now that I know what it does. I’ve been busy teleporting the underground shop, some gold, gems, etc. around :)
The underground shop is a great addition. I think the haul to the surface might be too long for some to take gems up when you can just get gold from the walls wherever you are. What’s the spikeball do, bounce around? If so I’m guessing the Excavatorrr isn’t immune to the impact.
So I just got the item Cthulu’s guarding, and it’s flat out amazing. One question though, is it at all possible to get said item _without_ waking Cthulhu up?
Actually, the first time I met Cthulhu, I freaked out and dropped a dynamite on him. It dropped him into a lower pit, and I was able to get the item without experiencing a freakout on his part. Then the Red Devil got me.
Keep in mind that even with the item there are times you will need to rely on your own climbing ability.
jsn: As Deceased Crab said. Only your presence can wake it, so exploding it to a lower level may allow you to retrieve the item. Nice that you liked it ;)
Now hold on a minute! I got an ancient clock or something out of the boss’s ceiling but from what you guys are saying you must be talking about the dragon wings right? This isn’t really a spoiler because right in one of the official screenshots you can see the guy with the dragon wings on.
Does the clock stop time, or maybe make it so all the enemies don’t move anymore? I died too fast to notice a difference.
When you use the clock, all enemies (should) stop moving. During the pause, they can’t hurt you and you can’t hurt them.
